Lorde canta la cover di "The Sound Of Silence"
Accompagnata alla chitarra dal cantautore Malon Williams, neozelandese come lei, Lorde ha eseguito la cover di "The Sound of Silence" di Simon & Garfunkel, secondo la leggenda fu composta da Paul Simon nel novembre 1963 dopo l'sassinio del presidente americano John Fitzgerald Kennedy.
Una versione che ha commosso il pubblico e la stessa Lorde, che non aveva mai eseguito pubblicamente il brano in precedenza e che non appariva dal vivo da alcuni mesi .
«È incredibile far parte di questa cosa - ha detto Lorde al microfono - Voglio dire alla nostra comunità musulmana, ai nostri fratelli e alle nostre sorelle: siete stati davvero forti e resilienti e siamo con voi. Questo è il nostro modo di starvi accanto, d’ora in poi».
Scritta da Paul Simon nel 1964, il brano comparve in versione acustica nell'album di debutto di Simon & Garfunkel. Per la canzone - che in origine si intitolava "The sounds of silence" - il successo arriverà però solo due anni dopo grazie ad una versione "elettrica" voluta del produttore Tom Wilson.
Il primo gennaio del 1966 il brano arrivò in vetta alla classifica USA, mentre in UK si fermò alla nona posizione. In Italia il singolo ottenne un buon riscontro anche se non andò oltre la 44 esima posizione nella Hit Parade.
E' il brano con il quale Simon and Garfunkel chiusero il loro leggendario Live in Central Park nel 1982
